Xanax è l'alias di un virus a basso rischio, il cui nome completo è W32/Scrambler.g@MM , che si diffonde tramite OUTLOOK ed i canali mIRC; altri alias sono I-Worm.Xanax, Win32.HLLP.Xanax, Xanax.exe. Il virus arriva con una mail con i segenti dati: OGGETTO: "Stressed? Try Xanax!" MESSAGGIO: "Hi there! Are you so stressed that it makes you ill? You're not alone! Many people suffer from stress, these days. Maybe you find Prozac too strong? Then you NEED to try Xanax, it's milder. Still not convinced? Check out the medical details in the attached file. Xanax might change your life!" Allegato:xanax.exe. Tramite i canali mIRC il virus arriva con un file di nome xanax.exe. Quando viene lanciato, si replica nel file XANASTART.EXE NELLA CARTELLA\WINDOWS\SYSTEM e lascia una copia del file XANAX.VBS nella cartella corrente; quindi si spedisce tramite OUTLOOK ai primi 1000 indirizzi della rubrica ed infetta i file .EXE. La rimozione deve essere effettuata tramite gli strumenti specifici degli antivirus.
